As a creative freelance copywriter in Bristol, I’ve had the chance to work on a huge range of projects for clients based locally, in London and further afield. Check out some of the brands I’ve worked for and the work I’ve done below…
Virgin is one of the world’s most recognisable and inspiring brands – and I am very proud to regularly write for various companies within the group. Mostly, I write engaging articles for various (internal and external) Virgin websites on topics ranging from entrepreneurship to social media. The Virgin brand has a unique tone of voice and all of my copy carefully incorporates this. The work often requires creative input or independent research, and the content must always be instantly attention-grabbing and thought-provoking – just like the Virgin brand itself. Many of the articles produced have generated a great deal of engagement with audiences on social media and in the article comments section. You can view recent examples of work here and here.
I was thrilled to help the University of East Anglia with a number of articles for their annual magazine for alumni, Ziggurat. Based on recordings of interviews with special guests to the university, including BBC Radio 1 DJ Greg James, I produced punchy, engaging articles, written with a specific audience and tone of voice in mind. As one of the top estate agents in Bristol, it was important to Besley Hill to have marketing material to impress and inform new clients. After a couple of face-to-face chats about the best approach, I put together a marketing pack containing essential info for new clients about the process of selling their home, and why Besley Hill knocks spots off its competitors. Free from the typical ‘estate agent speak’, the copy was written in an informative and engaging way. I also wrote a number of highly persuasive and effective sales letters to target certain groups of homeowners in different areas. View a sample of the copy here.
Spire Healthcare run a hospital in Bristol that was formerly a nightclub called The Glen. As a way of marking the special place that The Glen had in the hearts of many Bristolians, and to record the history of the site, Spire asked me to write a short book. It included covering the history of the site since Victorian times and capturing the popularity of The Glen as a hub for Nightlife in Bristol and beyond. It also included a separate section with interviews from around 15 Bristolians who remembered visiting The Glen in its heyday. View a sample of the copy here.
Tug-E-Nuff is a small, family-run business in the South West which makes specialised dog training toys. They initially got in touch because they needed concise, persuasive, engaging copy for a Buyer’s Guide. I was delighted to help, and after a chat over a coffee, I was able to provide some creative input and the finished work got great results. Since then, I wrote a highly-targeted sales letter to launch a new product. In just one week, this brought in more than £4,000 of sales – a thrilling result. They have since become a regular client and I now write a monthly newsletter on their behalf. View a sample of the copy here.
Green Sparkle is a start-up company in London offering eco-friendly cleaning services. The founder, Naweeda, got in touch to ask for help copy-editing the website content she had already drafted to make it easier to read and more effective at driving new business. The copy also needed tweaking it to maximise SEO. In addition, Naweeda wanted a series of engaging blogs to get the message across about why they were different – and again to help with SEO. I was delighted to help. View a sample of the copy here.

SARSAS – Somerset and Avon Rape and Sexual Abuse Support – is a Bristol-based charity that was planning a campaign about the importance of sexual consent. I came on board to provide hard-hitting copy for a leaflet, website and various collateral for the campaign. It was crucial that the tone was appropriate for a young audience (primarily teens and university students) and that the copy was engaging and informative – without being boring or patronising. I was also able to offer considerable creative input. This included suggesting a postcard was designed to look like a cassette tape – with the campaign messaging disguised as the band name and track listing, and creating copy for an interactive quiz for the campaign website. The company’s founder, Shannon, got in touch to ask for help transforming the website copy she had drafted into friendly, engaging, professional copy that would persuade visitors to her site that her service was a cut above the rest. As well as delivering on this, I was able to include targeted keywords to help with SEO. I turned around the copy in less than 48 hours from when Shannon first got in touch in order to meet her web designer’s deadline. View a sample of the copy here.
